Season
The Most Valuable Player Award (commonly known as the MVP award) is an annual award given to one outstanding player in each league of Major League Baseball. Since 1931, it has been awarded by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

The Cy Young Award is an honor given annually to the best pitcher in the Major Leagues. The award was first introduced in 1956 by Commissioner Ford Frick in honor of Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young, who died in 1955. The award was originally given to the single best pitcher in the major leagues. In 1967, the practice began of honoring one pitcher in each league.

The Rookie of the Year Award is given to the best first-year players in the American and National Leagues.

A batter who (at season's end) leads the league in three major categories -- home runs, runs batted in, and batting average or a pitcher who (at season's end) leads the league in three major categories -- earned run average, wins, and strikeouts.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award, is the award given annually to the Major League Baseball player judged to have the most "superior individual fielding performance" at each position (in each league), as voted by the managers and coaches in each league.

The Silver Slugger Award is made annually to baseball players at each of the fielding positions. The award began in 1980 and is given by Hillerich & Bradsby, the maker of Louisville Slugger bats. It can be thought of as the offensive counterpart to the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Before there was a Cy Young Award, there was the Pitcher of the Year Award, established by The Sporting News in 1944, though no awards were given in 1946 or 1947. The award is given annually to the pitcher in each league judged by TSN baseball experts as having had the most outstanding season.

The Major League Player of the Year Award is determined by The Sporting News © every season and is awarded to the person who has the most outstanding season regardless of position or league.

The Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award, first awarded in 1976, is a distinction given to the top relief pitcher in each league at the end of each season.

The World Series MVP Award is given to the player who most contributes to his team's success in the World Series - the Most Valuable Player.
